BLOCK 1 /2 Only!
Imagine if you lived during the American Revolution. You may be a Patriot soldier, a British RedCoat, a wife of a soldier or a son. You may be pro-war or against it. No matter who you are the war affects you.
For our next writing assignment you will put yourself in the shoes of a person who may have lived through the American REvolution. This letter will be historical fiction. You will write a letter home. Your letter may be to a spouse or a parent. It could also be to a friend.
Before you write this letter you need to think about the art of letter writing. In this blog post, tell me and your peers why letter writing was so crucial and why it was often so emotional. Aim for 3-4 sentences in length.
As always, happy blogging and make sure you blog before school begins Friday morning.

Dear Mom,
ReplyDeleteI am proud that I am fighting for our freedom! I am still very worried and I hope I will come home soon. I am trying super hard to be strong and am doing a super job with everyone else and staying safe! Please you do the same
Love from your favorite son,
I love and miss you and will be home soon,

Wrinting was cruacial because that was one of the most common ways to communicate. It was also a way to communicate with friends family that didn't live near you, and far away like if you lived in virgini and you wanted to communicate with your mom or dad that lives all the way in Pennsylvania. Letters where often emotional because letters aren't always received with good news, for example one of you loved ones died and you received a letter about it you of course would be upset.):

OK so i thought we had to write a letter, but i just read the bolded part.
ReplyDeleteWriting was very important becasue they didnt have email, texting or even a blog! They wrote what they were going to say. Anyway it was how they communicated with eaachother-just like what Vickytoria said.
Writing was important because outhor than talking thats how prople would comunicate. it was like out email and texts today. the letters could be emotional beuause you could of just found out you had just lost a on or a friend. it would be like getting a text saying your best friend just pasted away.

Writing is Very importent because they did have anything that we have today and it was their only use of communication although we can just take out our phones and txt our friends back then we would have to write a letter send it wait for it to come back (a day or 2) then write back. or in war you would have to send it and wait for what ever you need.
ReplyDeleteKJ Winegar xD
It was so important because writing was the only way to communicate. They didn't have email or texting during 1775.
ReplyDeleteDUH!
Sometimes, people only get to write a letter every 2 weeks or longer; so they have to put a lot of words and emotion into what they write. Back then, all they had was writing; there was no facebook, no blogs, no cellphones.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was so important to people back in the olden days that it was the only other way of communication then just talking to the person. Letters were ofen so emotional becuase if you live far away from the person you are writing to then you want to tell them everything that has happened in the past. There were no cellular devices or email back then so everything had to sent handwriten in an envelope and wyou sometimes take months to send.
ReplyDelete-Maddie Duffy (:
Well I think the reason writing letter was so important back then there was the lack of any other communication. So you couldn’t call them, post something on their wall in Facebook, or email them. And if you wanted to talk to your son in the war or your best friend you had to write a letter.
ReplyDeleteWriting letters were very important in revolutionary war times because there were no cell phones, email, facebook, or any other thing to communicate besides talking in person. The writing can be so emotional because you dont always get a good letter so you have to express your feelings when you send a letter back.

Back then, letter writing was so crucial because it was the only way of communication, (besides talking of course.) They didnt have cell phones, or email to communicate with their friends or family. They had to handwrite their letters, so it was a very crucial way of life. Also, it was emotional becuase sometimes the letters contained bad news, or even when they had good news, it was still very emotional.
ReplyDelete-Danielle Weber
Writing a letter back then was very special because it took a long time for letters to get around back then. So, the fact that they wrote a letter was emotional. Also, they were comunicating with their only other way of communication other than talking.
ReplyDelete-Georgia Hope
Writing a letter was very important becuase it was the only cummunication from long distances. It was so special, I mean waiting in the mail to see how a love one or a friend is doing. checking the mail every day had just having in the back of your head I wonder if I got a letter. I remember when I was a little girl,I always knew around my birthday I would get a card in the mail from my birth mother and it always had a letter, pictures and money in it.Usaully when your little you don't even read the card you just grab the money and go on to the next card put I loved getting the card from my dad ripping it open and having my mom read what my birthmother had to say and how her life was going sometime my mom even got emotional. Well I just thought I would share that connection.

Writing a letter was important because it was the only way people could communicate from long distances. Back then because they didn't have telephones, computers, or cell phones so they could communicate with each other so they wrote letters. They were also often emotional because there could be letters that were good for example signing the declaration of independence and sometimes letters that were bad for example your best friend just died and in that way they were more emotional.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was important because it was their only way of talking to each other. Back then they obviously didn't have email, cell phones, or text messages so they couldn't chat whenever they pleased. It can be very emotional because when you have a family/friend in a war you never know what could happen to them or if they're alright.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was so crucial in those times because this was their main way of communicating to each other. Although it was hard to get all of your emotions on paper at least they could talk to each other. Letters also seem like they mean more than texts or emails, because the person actually took the time to write their feelings by hand. It was emotional when the letters contained bad or good news, because you dont have the person who wrote it with you, to talk it out.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was very important back in the day. It was one of the only forms of long distance communication. Also letter writing is emotianal because someone took time to actually write a letter, get a stamp, and mail it. Instead of emailing them or facebooking them.
ReplyDeleteI think the letters back then were important because it took a long time to write and that was important because then the people that they were writing to knew that they were important and that the were thought of. I also think that now-a-days we sould wwrite more to people because its good for us and we can live like they lived back then.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing is so crucial because, it's your only source for contact. Whether your out fighting for your country or your back at home worrying ever second of the day about a loved one, the only way you can ask them how they've been, let them know how much you love and miss them, tell them what's been going on, anything at all, is through a letter. No phone, no email, no facebook or twitter; a letter. This is a very emotional concept because you have to wait for the letter to get to you, you can't call them or talk to them everyday and make sure they are okay. And it makes it even more sad because loved ones remind each other constantly about how they love and miss them, and the both of them know that they can't see each other. You don't know if they're injured, dead or alive because, the only way to know is through a letter. - Mariyah Allred.
ReplyDeletePeople used letter writing back then because there was no such thing as cell phones & computers. So people couldnt text or email. It was emotional because people would wait years for people to write them & they finally did through letters.
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was important because that was really the people's only way of communication back then. With the exception of actual talking, (which was impossible over long distances) letter writing was the only way for men in the military to talk to their family's. This was often very emotional because of the war going on with people dieing every day, all seemed suspended until that letter arrived.

Post script, Ellis, Thirteen is waaaay better than seven.
Kelly Says ;
ReplyDeleteThat back then we didn't have texting, emailing, chat, skype, phones, tv, etc. All we had was a piece of paper & a pen. That was all, so there was really no choice of communiciating with your love ones. Whenever your feeling like your missing someone you text them, click send, and wala you get a instant reply. Easy & Simple. So crazy how much technology changed huh?
Well, anyways, you MAY think waiting for a reply on a phone is long. IMAGINE, a letter. It can take days, weeks, and months...And since texting and emailing is faster now-a-days, when you write a letter. You can tell someone took the actual time to do it, and put there effort into it. The difference is very obvious. And, like Dear John, it is very sentimental. And lastly, while you can delete the text, you would have to take more effort ripping the paper up. Something just to think about.
XOXO,
Kelly Le.
writeing is very important back then beacuse. you could not tell your feelings how you feel to your family or friends beacuse. they did not have any phones email or any communtaction. vladimir bodnar
ReplyDeleteLetter writing was very important back then because it was the only long range way of communicating besides word of mouth which wasn't always accurate. It was also the only way to stay in-touch with someone a long ways away. During times of war letter writing was also a way to send codes and share secrets with others.
ReplyDeleteIan(the awesome)Deming Page p.s. happy Hanukkah everyone
letter writing was a good way for pepole to comunicate with there loved ones, without letter writing they could not tell there story or share there love, also letter writing has help us because reading old letters can help us learn about history, because pepole who wrote letters wrote history, i personally think letters are still a good way to comunticate because they are more personal then txts or emails, i just wrote a letter to a friend actually. so thats my view
ReplyDelete-Sada Adams-
Writing a letter is very crucial and emotional because of it's message. One reason is that when receiving a letter. It's like knowing at that time, they were alive but soon they're life is at risk the second after. Also it's emotional because how the letter could be the last letter that they'll receive. But not to mention that they didn't have technology like we do. It's not where they can send something and an instant they get it like we do. It took a time period to receive it.
ReplyDeleteBack then people who wrote was to those that they love and not like how we do just because we're bored. They didn't have enough time to write a lot. They would write to family, their son and wife or their parents.
Letter writing was very important back then. This is because it was the only way of comunication. It is also a was to express your love, and oppinions. It also told the worl the latest news. That is whay letter righting was so important back then.
ReplyDeleteLetter writting was so important in the revolution because it was the only way to communticate.Letter writing was very emotional because that would be the only way that they could communicate with loved ones and friends.
