Tri 2: Post #1 Week of 11/28-12/3

BLOCK 3/4 Only!

Imagine if you lived during the American Revolution. You may be a Patriot soldier, a British RedCoat, a wife of a soldier or a son. You may be pro-war or against it. No matter who you are the war affects you.

For our next writing assignment you will put yourself in the shoes of a person who may have lived through the American REvolution.  This letter will be historical fiction.  You will write a letter home. Your letter may be to a spouse or a parent. It could also be to a friend.

Before you write this letter you need to think about the art of letter writing.  In this blog post, tell me and your peers why letter writing was so crucial and why it was often so emotional. Aim for 3-4 sentences in length.

As always, happy blogging and make sure you blog before school begins Friday morning.

  1. Letter writing is crucial because it's more personal, and it shows that you took the time to write to them. Also because it takes more time to write them. People now dont write as many letters, they use emial and text and facebook. When I get a letter, I feel happy because someone took the time to write to me.

  2. Letter writing is very crucial and usually emotional back then, because it was it was like their only way to communicate, and it was very personal. It takes a lot more time and thought to write letters, instead of sending a text that takes like a minute, like a lot of people do nowadays.I like to write people letters on their birthdays and such, because it shows that you're thoughtful, and I really love getting letters to read whenever i get them.

  3. letter writing was so crucial because it was the only way to communicate from far distances. it was so emotional because soldiers usually wrote the letters during war. thisis so because it was the only way families could communicate while they husband was at war.

  4. Letter writing was so crucial and important because it was the one of the most important way to communticant. Writing letters was a good way to express your feelings and thoughts. Also it showed you took time to think about everything you were saying and not justing talking in general with someone. Also its easier to express your thoughts on paper than it is talking straight forward especially when talking about something private and special.

  5. To my dearest wife and kids,
I know that you probably do but please do not worry about me. I am fine and I am also fighting alongside one of the greatest leaders in the world, General George Washington. We are going to York town tomorrow. We have been losing most of our battles but we are trying. We plan to sneak up on them and make them surrender. I personally don’t think it is going to work. Well I hope to see you soon.
    Love,
    George Hamilton.
    he died the next day

  6. Letter writing was crucial because, as Mrs. Nadell said, the only way of communication back then. Writing a letter can often times be emotional because a letter is from a person who actually wrote it. By this I mean that when you read a letter you can feel what the person was trying to say and understand the situation better.

  7. Letter writing was so important because it was the only way to get information from one place to another. It was often emotional because the person would be trying to communicate everything that had happened over a long period of time. Letters carried great significance for people because gave updates on how a loved one was doing.
(My letter will be from a soldiers perspective)
    Mother,
The days seem to forever drag on. Each day we ambussh more of those fillthy Redcoats. They march by so proudly in the bright red, although it just makes it easier for us to spot them through the trees and across the fields. They seem oblivious of our cause, thinking nothing more of us than they would of a flea-ridden dog. Just yesterday I watched Henry fall. We were paired together and had been scouting in the woods. The filth came up behind and ambushed us, I was the only one who managed to escape with my life. I wonder when this will end. It is cold here and some of the men are beginning to get rambunctious. I long to be back in my home, under a safe room. I will be back as soon as I can.
    Take care,
    John Smith

  8. Letter writing was so crucial because back then there was no other way of long-distance communication. They didn't have cell phones, email, texting, or regular telephones. So if some one was at war the only way that they could communicate with family members would be through writing letters. This was often very emotional because if, per say, a soldier was at war for, like, 5 years he would never be able to see his family.( Not through Skype obviously)Only write.-Wendy Fillman

  9. Writing a letter is so emotional and crucial because in the colonists time it was the only way to communicate with other people. It was emotional for people because sometimes what they had to say was very meaningful and could have been hard for them to write.

    Dear Lucy,
I hope you and the children are safe. I want nothing more for me to be able to come home to you, John and Sara, but the war goes on. I hope the "rebals" as we are called by the redbacks seek victory in our next battle, and that we don't lose our men. The redback outnumber us greatly but because we are fighting for soemthing we believe in and for our family we have the advantage. Yesterday General Washington had us hide in bushes and trees and shoot them, and it worked. I don't know why they wear those bright red uniforms, they stick out like a sore thumb. I must sadly go now, I have to clean and load my gun. I hope to hear from you soon.
    With love,
    Sam Jones

  10. Letter writing was crucial because only under sertion sircumstances were they sent. Travel distance(mailing) took a very long time. The reason they could have been and were so emotional was because the person writing them told how they felt to the person they were writing to. Usually to a relative or close friend far away. They brought out their true feelings.

  11. letter writing is crucial becasue back then that was the only long distance way to communincate to family and friends. When familys got the letter from the war they were relieved to hear that there family member was alive. Letters were to let people know what wasw going on when they would get home and what the out come of the battles were. Letters were like calling texting emailing and facebooking combined.

  12. The art of letter writing was so important because this was the only wayt o communicate with friends and family. There was no email or texting. Letter writing is also very personal. You write specificlly to that person nd since you couldn't respond quickly the letters tended to be long and informitve.

  13. Letter writing so crucial becuase when someone gets your letter they know you took time out of your day to right it by hand. And they can only send that letter to you and not make copies and send it all over the place. It also is better because there is something about a letter that is better than a text or an email or something.

  14. letter wrighting was so important back then because there was no other means of comunication. back then if you wanted to tell someone far away somthing you wrote a letter. they didnt have technology like we did.

  15. Letter writing is so crucial because back then the colonists didn't have a telegram. Alls the had was the mail. So it was like their way of emailing. They would send letters back and forth during war to let eachother know they were both still alive. I personally like it when I get a letter because it means that this person who's writing it took the time to make it for me.

  16. I think letter writing was so importand to the people of that time period because there were no phones for calling or texting. there was no facebook or myspace or blogger to say hello there was no other way to contact someone this was the singual way to say anything

  18. letter writing was a vvery important part of being in the revolution. a main reason i think would be to know that your friend and father isn't dead. also you can get the latest news from the front. the last good reason is to make sure your friendsa are ok and not living without a home.

  19. Letters were very important because that was the only source of messaging. There was no facebook e-mail texting and on top of that leters would take months to arrive. So letters as they were, were the only source of communication. This was the only way to communicate to friends and family that were a long distance away.

  20. Letter writing was so crucial because the distance was so far to have the message be sent over seas or land. They wanted to tell how exactly they felt in the letter to get the reader to see in their eyes what was happening. If it was love, war, death, etc. They wrote with passion and emotion to convey what their concern was or how happy they were. The messages were importance to everyone and anyone back then. So that's why the letter writing was so cruciel.

  24. Letters are more than just a way to tell someone something. It's a way to exprises the way you feel inside. Like at the Veterans assembly the letters people wrote. The letters told not just what they saw, but the things they felt because of the things they saw.

Letter writing is so crucial because that was the only way of comunicationback then. the only back thing was, that it took days for people to get thier messagse to someone they loved or cared for.
