Veteran's Day is Thursday.  I want you to think about what it means to be a Vet and what it means to celebrate this holiday- by using the questions below to start a discussion.  Answer as many of the questions as you can OR respond to someone else's blog post from this week instead.

  • Why do some choose a career in the military?
  • Why is it important to recognize their service?
  • Compare and Contrast what it would be like to be a soldier today vs one in the American Revolution or even the Civil War

  1. I believe some people join the military to fight for thair country and to fight for freedom and what they beleave in.

It is important to recognize their service because they risk thair lives to keep us safe.

In today's wars we have much greater techonolgy and things they wouldent evan of drempt of then.
Also today people doent evan need to fire a gun to kill people robots can do that now.

  2. Some people choose to go into the military because they need to pay off college loans some go just for the opportunity to have a job and many go because they wish to serve their county. It is important to recognize their service because we need to appreciate the sacrafices they makesuch as being away from thier families for months at a time being wounded and dying.

  3. i think some people choose the military as a career because they want to defend their country and now they have incentives (such as payement for collage). its important to recognize their service because they risk their lives for our freedom. todays military compared to the amer. rev. is a big difference. back then, alot of people would die because of old tactics(watch "Patriot", it explans alot). like what Garrett said, we dont have to risk human lives and can just use robots. And also, back in the american revoulution, we were fighting for our indepence, now alot of wars are started because of religion or tyrannts.

  4. It is important to recognize them because of all they have done for us to support us and what Garrett said - risk their lives for us.

  5. It's really important to remember and reconize the veterans on veterans day becuase of all they have, or are doing for us. They chose to go defend our country- and risk their lives, for our safety and comfort. They chose this because it helps make our country better, and I'm sure it gives them great pleasure knowing that they are doing something great for their country. Its important to reconize them because many of the veterans have died, or have tried their hardest trying to defend our country for you, while you are here living in comfort. Many people take that forgranted, and it's important to thank every veteran you can for their heroic deeds. In the American Revolution, people were fighting for our freedom, but in the war today, they are fighting for other countries.

  6. I think some people choose a career in the military because they want to fight for their country and people. It's very important to recognize their services because they risked their life to make America a better place for all of us, without them, who knows how different America could be today?

  7. i think people chose this career because they want to fight for our freedom and our safty.

it is very importent to recognize the people that fight for us because they are giving their lives to protect us and we should be very thankful.

being a soldier back then was very hard because they did not have all the medical stuff thay we have today. also back then we use to know who our enimies (japan and germany) where we look up in the air we see a red plane we know who it is and now we have no idea who our enimies are thye live among us in the shadows of our counrty.

  8. NO! i just spent a long time writing a great blog post and then my brother messed it up!!!!
    okay, attempt number two

I never really have put much thought into vetrens day until this year, for thoughs of you at school today im sure you know why. The first time i read the letter it brought tears to my eyes, i dont think its at all fair that a nurse should die beacause the are not trying to haarm anybody. I think its very important to remember and reconize the service of vetrens beacuse they left there safe home so others could keep theirs. But i also thinks its greatly important to reconize that a nurse or doctor that was away at war is still, and always will be a vetren because without them our souldiers would not recover from the inguries they may face.

  9. You might think "Oh, whatever it's just Veterans Day." But, that's not all to it. It's not just a boring day, that you can blow off in one sentence. The reason some of you may think that is simply because it's not you out there. Stop and think for a second. Picture YOURSELF out there, fighting for your country. Your scared but strong and have absolutely no idea what the future holds. Will you become injured, will you live; die? You'd be pretty scared huh? Exactly. Veterans Day has big meaning. People choose this as a career because maybe they wish to fight for there country and make a difference in history. It's important to recongize their service because they're out fighting for us; for our country. They don't get to wake up every morning and kiss their family goodbye for school or work. They don't get to sleep in every weekend. They don't get to be worry free. Were lucky today. We have more weapons, more technology more knowledge. But, just think if there's another war in the future, they're going to say the same thing. That they're lucky and we are the ones that had suffer unlike them. Just remember to charish every moment with your family because 100 miles away, a child only get's to look at a picture of they're parent and would do anything to have at least five minutes with that person. Keep that in mind.

  11. Some people join the military because they want to serve their country and others have to join because they don't have enough people in the military so they just choose random people to serve and if they decide not to serve they get punished by going to jail. It's important to recognize their service because they fight for our freedom and to represent our country and what they have done for us. Today we have more technology and new and more powerful weapons than before so we have a 99.9% chance of succeding in a war than in the American Revolution or the Civil War because we now like i said before have more technology and stronger weapons and machines!

  13. People join the military because they want to protect our freedom and fight for what they believe in. It is important to reconize their service because without them, we may not be a free country if they were not fighting for us.In the Civil War, they had muskets that were only one shot. today we have automatics and big explosives.

  14. People join the military to fight for their country. Also, I they fight for our freedom, like what Wyatt said. It is important to reconize there services because if it weren't for them our whole lifes would be so different- we might not even be here today. Today people in a war have more technology, like improved guns, better medicine, they also have vechiles and explosives. A solider during the American Revolutoioin didn't have good medicine, guns and they didn't have any type of vehicles. They used horses. Imagine getting shot and not having the proper tools and medicine to help you get better. People now have it a lot better then people during the American Revolution.

  15. People choose to be in the army so that they can serve their country and also to defend it. It is important to recognize their service because they are risking their lifes to protect their country from other harmful countries. Being a solider in this day and age is very different then back in the olden days this is because now, most people in the army are far away in a foiren country. Also there are lots of different branches like the army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard, national guard ect. Back during the american revolution the soilders would most likely be in their homes and only go away when they need to. The medical service is much improved so less people would die that have been wounded. One of my friends on my soccer team, her brother in law is currently serving in afghanistan and we write him letters all the time.

  16. people join the armed forces to fight for their country or to be part of something. Others join for the leadership experience and still others for the benefits. It is important to remember veterans because they should not be forgotten most were willing to die for this country and they should be remembered for that. My brother and grandpa are both Navy veterans so veterans day is a big thing in my family.

  17. people choose to be in the military to fight for our rights, and to fight for us to be a free country. It's important to take this day to recognize the people who have died, fighting for what we have today, our freedom. In the civil war, the weapons maybe were not so powerful, and they're clothing might not have been so protective but today, our clothing and weapons have advanced for our soldiers to be more protected.

  18. I think that people enlist into the military because they want to fight for what they believe in and to defend their home land and it is important to recognize their service because they are fighting to defend us everyday. Also the differences and similarities between soldiers today and during the revolutionary war is that our soldiers are more trained and equipped then before and the similarities is that they both fought for their country and freedom

  19. I believe that people ding up to be in service, because they want to serve their country. I also believe that they follow in the path of their family members. They may also need discipline, so their parents, or other authority sends them in.

It is important to recognize their service, because without them, we would be controlled by another country.

  20. I believe I agree with almost everyone on the blog so far. This day is in remembrance of the young men and woman, that sacrificed their lives and the lives of their loved ones. I wish I could say that the desishion has been made that all the people that have fought for our freedom are now home and safe. But as we speak these amazing people are protecting us. As
I think about what this day is made for I think wow today i really shouldnt have gone shopping all thought I got some cool stuff. I think that I should have done something to keep in my mind that these fighters are still out there and are still fighting for our freedom!

  21. People chooses to enlist to help protect their friends, family, and country. They fight for the glory and freedom of the USA.
It's important to recognize their services, because them, because they are/where/will be fighting for us. For our freedom, safety, and well-being. Being a soldier today, and way back when...they both had a huge possibility are arn't gunna make it back alive, but today we have so much more technology, back then they straight up had guns. One similarity they have is they both are fighting for the same principles, and place

  24. I think Its verey differnt now during the war then it was back then in the civil and american rev. war because we have advantcied in are tools we now use camo. for are army suits and have guns and boomb and its just way diffrent and almost harder.I think its good that we take a day to remeber what they faught for and died for.
