Blog #6 week of 5/2-5/6

BLOCK 3/4 ONLY!

So... tell us what you think of the movie, Dead Poet's Society. What did you like? Tell us your opinion. Also tell us which of the messages from the movie are you going to take with you for your own life?!?

The five main themes from the movie are:
1.   Teaches the importance of looking at things another way. This includes reading, writing, POETRY as a unique and powerful medium and life itself.
2.  The importance of not always conforming! Do not spend your life worried of what people think of you. Maintain your own beliefs. Trust that your beliefs are unique and your own.
3.  Find your voice. It can be in sports, writing, your school work, extracurricular activities or just the positive life choices you make!!!
4.  Stand up for what you believe in!
5.  Carpe Diem – Seize the day! Make your life extraordinary. It is your choice what you make of it.

Thank you for blogging by Friday morning!

  1. The movie wasn't my type but was some-what interesting. From the movie, the message I will take away #2 because I feel my future isn't what I whole heartedly wish for but someone else's wishes being possessed through me. I feel after the movie I can trust my self to make a decision.

  2. I really liked the movie! At first I thought "Oh no, not another boring movie!" (Poetry movies tend to be boring) I shocked myself when I really started to like it! It was amazing! I think that I will take into my own life Carpe Diem, even though the boys tended to use that pretty crazily in the movie! Overall, it was AMAZING! :)

  3. I thought the movie was interesting. There really isn't another word for it. It really confused me at times but I understood the message it was trying to present. I think that I'll take carpe diem with me throughout my life. To me it kind of translates into "don't let life pass you by". Its just something to always remember with whatever you're doing and whatever your goals may be. I think the boy who wanted to be an actor was a little extreme. If I were him I would have run away instead of killing myself because of the consequences that came with him killing himself. Some parts of the movie were depressing, others were hilarious, and some were just a little odd. Overall I think it was a pretty good movie and I wouldn't mind watching it again.

  4. This movie taught me to try to do what makes me happy even if what I want isn't other peoples ideal. I admired the aspiring actor for having such passion about acting that there was no other way. I also admired the boy that did anything to get his girl! That boy never gave up.

  5. I actually loved the Dead Poet Society, i mean at first i thought i wasn't going to like it cause i hate poetry(no offense Mrs.Nadell) but i thought Robin Williams and all the other boys did a really good job. The message from the movie that I am going to try to take into my life forever is #2. I really believe in not conforming, i think its wrong to do something just because everyone else does it( For example smoking r buying, like, UGGS.) I know that no matter how much i don't like i still do it myself but from now on I am going to try to not conform and be myself!

  6. I really liked Dead Poet's Society! In my opinion, the movie had a lot of meaning, and it was moving. If I could, I would watch it again, because I honestly wasn't paying my full attention to the first 20 minutes. Something I'll take a long through my life is, to not always be so serious. Have fun sometimes, and take risks.

  7. This movie was quite interesting. I don't think I've seen anything like that before. I also think it would be a cool experience to have a professor like Mr. Keating (Robin Williams). I can say that I enjoyed this movie because of the meaning and emotions. I honestly was trying to hold back my emotions when I saw Neil (Robert Leonard) kill himself. A theme I will use with my life will be number 2. I will be proud and take pride in what I do and think.

  8. i thought the movie was phenomenal. it was really serious a lot of the time and was very deep and meaningful. I personally loved carpe diem, just because it rally means make the best of the situation; even if it is not to your taste.

  9. I thought that the movie was freaking amazing! I love poetry and now I want to own that movie.(: I thought that it was quite moving and inspirational! I loved carpe diem but I think that my favorite was "To Not Conform..." This was because I love how the boys didn't follow what every one else was doing. And they didn't care what every one else thought because it was their own idea and their own heart that went into creating the "Dead Poet Society" again. Plus when the boy wanted to do the play and he didn't care what his dad said because he loved acting so much! I think that'll stick with me the most because even though you can hear what other people think. You don't need to listen to them. They can be a guide line but they don't have to make you do anything!!! I think to not conform, will stick with me for the rest of my life!

The movie in my opinion was stupid. I hated how the main character killed himself when he could've easily run away. And I also didnt like how the teacher got fired. The movie could be inspirational because it shows that you need to do what your heart tells you too, but that ended in a guy killing himslef sooo......

  11. The movie was good. I didn't expect it to be very interesting since it was about poetry and poetry is boring to me, but it was. One thing I can take away from the movie is #2. I know that I conform a lot, mainly because I'm really shy. I liked that the guys did want they believed in, not what everyone else wanted them to do.

  12. I thought this movie was dramatic, sad, kinda funny, and overall, one of the better movies i've seen. Still, the ending was kinda lame and, in my opinion, that guy was overreacting. Then, they went and blamed Robin Williams. I thought that was really unfair.
Also, Carpe Diem is something that i hear constantly because my uncle says it all the time, so it means something to me, but not much.

  13. I thought this movie was amazing. The main point I got out of this was to take the rode less followed buy. Don't always do the thing that everybody else is doing and do your own thing. Even if that is is something you are not sure about.

  14. The Dead Poets Society was a great movie. It had many lessons and a it was a fantastic story. The movie had many themes also, one is a saying I've heard before but never really took it to mean anything; that saying is Carpe Diem. It means to seize the day. I really could use this advise now that I know the meaning, and I will take this advise with me on my journey of life.

  15. i thought it was a good movie, lots of drama and there was never a boring pointless part. there was always something going on with each individual person in the story so there was a lot to show. Even though i missed the first part it was still a really good movie. standing up for what you believe in is a good message from the story. Neil's dad told him not to do the play and he still decided to do the play. the only bad part is having that person shut you down and make you sad and making your life miserable. thats also why the dude killd himself. poor dude.-jordan carlson

  16. I liked the movie up until the kid kills himself. The movie had a great plot and ending. I think the fifth one "seize the day" I will take that one into my own life.
