BLOCK 1/2 ONLY
I spent a great deal of the weekend thinking about the Internet Assembly. We have this assembly every year and every year it makes me think. I, as a mom, think about what the world will be like for my boys when they are in middle school. The tech and internet becomes crazier every day and I wonder how this will affect them. It scares me. I know that when I was a kid cyber bullying didn't exist, kids instead bullied through paper notes or by simply spreading word-of-mouth rumors. What has remained the same is the cruelty. I wonder why people are still cruel and why this stuff still exists. What I do know is that you can make the change. Think back to the Rachel's Challenge Assembly- and starting a chain reaction of kindness.
For this blogpost- I want you to answer two questions:
1. What did the Internet assembly make you think about, or what surprising thing did you learn?
2. What can you do, name one specific thing, to change things or make a difference? (Think bullying, facebook, sexting, etc..)

Welcome to the big bad world of blogging!
Hello everyone and welcome to our classroom blog. This blog will serve as a weekly online journal entry. It will be a way to earn points for Language Arts class but SO much more. It will be a way for you to get your voice out there! Every week there will be a discussion topic/question posted by yours truly and it will be your job to respond. Your response may be in direct relation to the topic or may be a comment about another student's response. The topics will vary but your job will remain the same. Respond to the topic in as much detail as you find necessary and in as genuine a matter as possible!

1.It made me think about how weird those old people are that say they are 14 when they are 75!
ReplyDeleteAnd I was shocked that the one girl comitted suicide.
2. Don't spread rumors about people you don't know.
1. The assembly made me think about how much information I put out on the Internet
ReplyDelete2. I could no put up personal info (age, gender etc) on facebook or other sites and tell my friends to do the same.

1.) The assembly made me think of all of those creepers in the world who stalk little kids/ teenagers on the internet and say that they are other people. It's surprising how many kids actually go see or even talk to people that they don't know.
ReplyDelete2.) One thing i can do is on formspring when people write hate comments on my wall I just won't even answer them because formspring is a place for questions, not anonymous hating. Oh and I will also try to get people (Connor Coyle) to stop swearing because...swearing is meaningless.

1. Something surprising I learned is that when you agree to the terms and conditions on Facebook, even when they change, you still agree with them.
ReplyDelete2. One thing I can change is taking some information off Facebook and checking the privacy settings every once in a while.

The internet assembly made me think about how bad cyberbullying can be. I can make a difference by being nice over the internet.

Well the internet safety was mostly around face book and social networking but I don’t even have done so in a surprising stand point it doesn’t really involve me but the other things were surprising. To make deference I could not make fun of people online and not spread rumors
ReplyDeleteThe internet made me think of my facebook account, and the restrictions it with holds. Something I can do is not put my information on scetchy websites. Something I have done and I suggest is making a fake email account that can get possibly be spammed.
ReplyDelete1. The assembly made me think of Reachels Challenge.
ReplyDelete2. I can make a difference by starting a chain reaction of no bullying online.
I think there wasnt much that i learned at the assebly, more like things i relized. the assembly made me rember all the horrible things that have happend on form spring about me and my friends, pepole pretending to be me, pepole saying mean things about me and pepole saying mean things to my friends.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the awnser to number two i can make sure i dont say negitive things about other pepole through txt or facebook, because if you cant say somthing in person you should oviously never say it!

One thing I learned from the internet assembly is that you automatically agree to any changes to Facebook. One thing I can do to prevent myself from agreeing to something bad is to go in any check the agreement once and awhile.
ReplyDelete1. The internet assembly made me think about how many weirdo's there are out ther and that I need to be careful of what I do on the internet.
ReplyDelete2. Something I can do about it is not give out any personal information or anything that would put me or anyone else in danger.
-Georgia Hope
The internet assembly made me realize that being online isnt all fun and games. There are cruel and dangerous people waiting for the right, un-informed, vulnerable child to pop up.Also the internet opens up endless oportunities to cyber bully and hurt others, from behind an anonymous screen. For exapmle formspring, it is fun to answer questions, but there is so much hatred and bullying, that teens don't need. If one person deleted theirs maybe the next would, and the next person and so on. This would cause a chain reaction and probably lower cyber bullying. I could delete some of my not so used online accounts to make myself safer from online predators.
ReplyDeleteThe assebaly made me think about how important it is to be safe on the internet & not to give away information that should not be given away. It also made me think about how cyber bullying is mean & could got you into a lot of trouble.
ReplyDeletesomething that could be changed is that cyber bullying is unexceptible & should not be something that us kids/young adults should do. sexting is somethign that needs to be chainged as well, we can stop this by making good choices.

ReplyDeleteI think that the assembly was good because it showed how sending a picture to someone can be risky. Like I never knew that facebook can be so dangerous, causing teenagers to kill themselves. It made my think to be more safe, and watch out for my friends. I also think it is horrible that some girls need to send a picture, just to satisfied there boyfriend. If they wanted to see you without or with a bra just ask yourself! I also like that assembly, because it should give teenage boys a reality check about overposing with sexting. Utterly detesting, and gross.
And, I should now change how I act of facebook, like sometimes I would swear and I should know that sometimes if I ever applied for a job they would want to see my facebook, and if something was inapproraite then I would not get that job. And I should be more careful on what I do.
XOXO,
Kelly Le.
this made me think about what i post on facebook and it kinda scared me because just one picture could be the end of your life and to make a diffrence i would speak up for anyone that gets dissed or hurt on facebook
ReplyDelete1. The assembly made me think about omy facebook account and that i should try to put more restrictions on it to make it safer. I learned that there are a lot more creepers in the world than i thought!
ReplyDelete2. I can be a difference maker by not spreading rumors and help people out that are getting bullied.

1.The assembly made me think about how glad I am that I don't use social network websites unless its for chatting with people that I actually know.
ReplyDelete2. Something that I could do to make a difference is to not do it myself or tell others to stop and think about all of the outcomes of bullying or sexting.
I learned at the internet safety assembly that facebook isnt as safe as they make you think it is i was reminded of Rachels Challenge at that assembly because they talked about being kind to others online as well as face to face.
ReplyDeleteSomething i can do to make a difference is to report cyber bullying if it happens to me or i hear that it happens to others that way i can make people more comfortable both online and in person
1. It made me realize how many stalkers or pedo etc there are on youtube.
ReplyDelete2.Well, I'm going report more often if there is ever a cyber-bullying is occuring.
1.the Internet assembly made me think about how we are realy never safe wherever ue go now because of things like this.
ReplyDelete2. if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all
-Garrett Hinchey
The assembly made me remember why I have no photos of me online and why I always use an alias. One thing I could do is to not say impolite things online.
ReplyDeleteThe assembly made me think about how important and dangerous it is not to put too much personal information online for the public.
ReplyDeleteI can make a difference by being nice to others and not bully others.
-Jared Jacobson
The assembly made me think twice about what i say to people. & how dangerous it is to put out your address or phone number.
ReplyDeletei can make a difference by not being rude to people when they make me mad.
