Block 1 /2 Only
This week we will begin our writing portfolios. These are folders in which you will keep your writing assignments. You will reflect on each assignment and conference with me about your work in the hopes that you improve as a writer this school year. I will be using the SIX TRAITS of writing to grade you. You should be very familiar with these traits: Ideas/Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions.
For this blog post please explain in detail which of these traits is your strength and why. Then describe which of these traits you would most like to improve over the school year.
Example Response:
As a writer I am strongest in voice. I believe my voice comes across in a unique way in my writing. However, the area I am weakest in is Organization. When I am not careful, my ideas seem scattered and not well- put together so this is the area I will focus on improving this year.

Welcome to the big bad world of blogging!
Hello everyone and welcome to our classroom blog. This blog will serve as a weekly online journal entry. It will be a way to earn points for Language Arts class but SO much more. It will be a way for you to get your voice out there! Every week there will be a discussion topic/question posted by yours truly and it will be your job to respond. Your response may be in direct relation to the topic or may be a comment about another student's response. The topics will vary but your job will remain the same. Respond to the topic in as much detail as you find necessary and in as genuine a matter as possible!
In order to receive the credit you justly deserve, when you post make sure your full name is listed.

My best trait is probably word choice. In my writing, I always try to come up with words I haven't used before. Instead of good i'll say excellent or amazing. I need to work on voice some more because I find my writing pretty boring.
ReplyDeleteOut of the six traits, in am the best at Ideas/Content. I feel that I have good ideas in my writing, but I am horrible with sentence fluency. I have to really work on my fluency, and my writing will be allot better.
ReplyDeleteI decided to do this one early, because last time it didn't post at all (:
ReplyDeleteFor me, Sentence Fluency is my best trait. I vary the lengths of my sentences a lot, and I usually get high scores in that category. On the opposite side, I would have to say that word choice is my worst trait. I have a hard time thinking of new words to use, and sometimes use the same words more then once in my writing. Last year, we did sort of the same thing as we are doing now, and that helped a lot, and I'm going to try to improve my writing more as the year progresses.

As a writer i am strongest in Ideas/Content because i always have ideas poping into my head and it is very easy for me to be creative. i would like to improve on my Word Choice because i dont have a very colourfull volcabulary and stick to the main words like said as a example.

My strongest trait would have to be ideas. I have really6 good ideas but in my organzation they kind of hope around in my paragraphs. Conventions, sentence fluency and word choice I have a hrd time with. I just need to use one word and not 2 words that mean the same thing so many times.
ReplyDeleteFor me in writing ny strongest trait would be in choice because when i write i try and make my paragraphs sound good by choossing good words. the one i am weak in is voice because i go air-born (oh look my are holding hands) in voice i am not able to use voice asmy stongest trait.

I'm definatly strongest in word choice! I tend to use words that most people seem to overlook. But as every writer has their good traits, they also have their flaws. Mine is orginazation skills. If I have to write a long paragraph, or essay I tend to forget to separate them into paragraphs or subsections. I also like to repeat the same ideas (which are always scattered around my writting). Hopefully I can get those skills sharpened up this year and use them to revise the book I'm writing; that would be pretty cool.

I am strongest in voice. For example " WHERE did you put the remote! " said Tristan.

I am really good at the ideas and content part of writing because i can always think up a good story. I have a lot of trouble with sentence fluency and word choice because, I always use the same length of sentence and don't choose exciting words
ReplyDeletemy strongest trait i say is, voice. i think i am really great at writing what i am thinking, but i have a problem with my ideas. its not that i cant think of things to wright but that my brain is more of a logical thinker, that's why I'm great at math
ReplyDeleteMy strongest trait would be voice, when i write about my self i always go into detail about how it happened and exactly how i felt. Even when I'm writing about other things you can tell that i wrote it just because of the way it sounds. My worst trait would have to be ideas/content, on my pre-writes i always spend the most time on them just thinking of ideas to write about.

I say;
ReplyDeleteThe strongest trait for me will deffinately have to be VOICE. I usually get a lot of comments and high scores on my voice in my writing. I write with a lot od depth, and ethusiasm. So, obivously people would like to keep reading. That's what I usually like to do when I right, don't make people bored.
The weakest trait I have is conventions / punctuations. To me there both kinda of the same in a way, but also different. I sometimes overally use commas, and I sometimes don't use it enough. So, I would like to work on that to get higher scores. :)
XOXO, Kelly Le.
When I write a paper, the first instant thing you will notice is that I have a strong voice. My paper sounds likes me, and me only. I don't try to copy other people, I believe on being different, an individual. But as I capture the readers attention and they keep reading, they get a strange look on their face. A face of confusion. They just ran into the part where I'm weak at, my organization. It still seems that through all these years, my teachers still edit my paper, by taking out certain areas, or moving it. So to sum this up, my strong strait is voice and my weakest is organization.
ReplyDeletei think voice would haveto be the trait i am best with, i love to have a conversation with my paper! humor is also a big part of my voice. my weakness is spelling and grammor though,
ReplyDelete-Sada Adams-
I think i am strongest in my voice because i try to keep my reader reading and interested. I use enthusiasm and make my writing strong with voice.
ReplyDeleteI have trouble with my punctuation and spelling but that is a thing i need to work on by myself and on my own. I think the thing that always gets me is my ideas, they stop me from making my paragraphs strong and interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy thing is kind of like Ellis. Im good at voice and wrighting down what im thinking but I struggle with ideas. If a teacher tells me to write about soccer I could write tons of paragraphs about it because I can relate. But if a teacher tell me to wirte a story about how a little boy moved to china I would have trouble creating ideas. As the year goes by I hope I can be a better writer.
ReplyDeletexoxo Maddie rae.k :)
My stongest trait is probably voice because i write everything exactly how i say it :D what i need to work on this year is ideas and word choice because i don't think of many ideas and i usually use the same words ove and over again in my writing which is pretty boring!! (:
ReplyDeleteMy strongest trait in writing would have to be ideas because usually when writing I instantly get ideas of what I should write. The trait that I need to work on mostly would be sentence fluency because I always end up with run on sentences or choppy sentences in my writing.
ReplyDeleteMy best category of writing is Ideas/Content because im really good at expressing my ideas and putting them into words. My worst part is conventions though. I need to learn which convention to use. I use excemellation marks a lot!
ReplyDeleteas a writer I am good at ideas beacuse I think i become with good ideas. also I think I need to work on voice beacuse I think my writeing sounds boring. vladimir bodnar
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, when I came to Maywood, I didn't like writing at all. But over the years, as I've learned to improve my writing, I've come to enjoy it. I feel that I need to work on my ideas. I have a hard time brainstorming what I am wanting to write about but, once I get an idea down, I am really good about making it sound like me writing, and I am very good at explaining what it is I'm writing.
ReplyDelete- Georgia Hope
My best trait would probably be voice. I have no trouble putting voice into my writing. I believe voice can be anything from beliefs and a way to express certain feelings. Which is why i am under the impression that voice is my trait forte.
ReplyDeleteI'm best in ideas because i always have good ideas running through my mind when it comes to writing. I need to work on organization, i'm not very good with that.
ReplyDeleteMy best writing trait is definitely my voice. I usually don't need to try to put voice into my writing, it just comes naturally as I write. The trait that I need more work on is organization, I notice that I tend to veer off topic when I am writing so I really need to focus on that when writing.
ReplyDeleteL<3ve Always,

i think my best trait is ideas, they sort of "flow" onto the paper. my worst trait is voice, my paper sounds like a robot; i would deffinetly like to improve it
